Frequently Asked Questions

Marga Coughlin looks at some gold a customer has brought to sellHow is an ADI Gold Party different from other home parties?
At an ADI Gold Party, we pay you. Instead of buying you're selling, which means you go home richer than you walked in. That's true whether you're a guest or the host. Got a tight schedule? Once you've made your gold sale, you can say so long to the host and head out. What's more, ADI's skilled professionals offer more than knowledge and expertise -- they're also a lot of fun.

I'm no goldsmith. Am I responsible for sorting, weighing, or evaluating the gold?
By no means. You invite the guests and serve the fruit punch. We'll take care of all the rest. Our professional team of experts will bring all the necessary tools and conduct the business for you.

I'd like to host a party. What do I need to do?
If you're ready to have a great time making money, give us a call to book a party date at 810.329.6866. Pick a place -- your home, business, or rented hall -- and invite your friends and family. Learn more by visiting our What is a Gold Party page.

How much can I make as the party host?
That's up to you. As an ADI Gold Party host, you not only get to sell your gold at the party, you also take a whopping 10% of the party's sales. Keeping that figure in mind, you'll do well to invite as many people as you can and encourage your guests to bring as much gold as they can. The average gold party takes in some $4,500. Automatically, that's $450 for spending time with friends and family in an atmosphere heady with gold fever.

Does anything get deducted from my total gold sales?
Absolutely not. You get paid the full value of your gold. We don't take anything out of your sale. All host benefits, snack benefits, and everything else comes out of the American Diamond Importers account, not your gold money. Think of the host benefits as a bonus.

Any incentives for encouraging friends and family to book gold parties off of my party?
You bet. With an ADI Gold Party, the money making doesn't stop just because the last guest says goodnight. Any party booked from your party makes you money -- an impressive 3% of that party is yours per party-- so be sure to encourage your guests to book a gold party of their own. Not only is it a money maker for them, but it means more cash for you.

Any incentives for friends and family to attend that have only a piece or two to sell?
First of all, it's a party. Secondly, if they're not wearing it, why shouldn't they recycle it and make a couple bucks?

In what areas does American Diamond Importers offer ADI Gold Parties?
Today, we cover destinations all across southeast Michigan. Please view our current map to find your city. Next, we're headed south to the Sunshine State to offer gold parties in Florida!

Some gold on a professional precious metals scaleWhat exactly can I sell?
The short answer is this: If it contains gold, ADI wants to see it. Your outdated gold rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces make a great starting point. Add to that charms, pins, metals, and even single earrings and snagged, broken jewelry. We consider it whether it's in style or way out of date, 10k to 24k, never-worn or well-loved, or dental in nature. Get inspired to do some gold digging by visiting our What Can I Sell page. Be sure to forward this link to your party guests, too, to give them an idea of the array of items to bring.

I can't wait for a party -- I need cash today. Can I sell my gold directly to ADI?
Absolutely. Gather your gold and visit American Diamond Importers during normal business hours for on-the-spot gold selling. We've staffed additional gold buying experts to allow for walk-in service with no appointments necessary. Learn more by visiting our Sell Your Gold page.

I prefer to make an appointment or I have diamonds that I would like to sell
If you would prefer to make an appointment, please give us a call us at 810.329.6866 to set up a time that suits your needs. Please note that an appointment is recommended if you are interested in selling diamonds. We take appointments between 10am-4pm daily Mon-Thurs and Saturday, too. Need an after-hours appointment? Ask for one-on-one scheduling on Friday nights through 7:30pm depending upon availability.

I'm 16 and selling these items for a friend. Is that acceptable?
According to our Terms and Conditions, customers selling gold must be at least 18 years of age and the legitimate owners of any property presented for sale. Be sure to bring proper identification and documentation as you may be asked to provide proof of age and ownership.

How much time does it take in-store?
The time you spend with your gold buying expert depends upon the amount of items you bring in and the ease in which your pieces can be evaluated. For example, if you bring in a handful of average gold items -- a few necklaces, a couple charms, a plain wedding band -- you may be out the door within five to ten minutes. Larger piles of treasure with more complicated items can take up to 30-minutes or so. Either way, it's not a lot of time invested for a pleasing payout

What are you paying for gold?
ADI believes that the value of your gold is worth more than a one-size-fits-all response.

Many factors are taken into account when we consider the value of your gold. The price of gold changes almost every day. Purity is also important. For example, 24kt gold pieces will be of greater value than 14kt gold. Your necklace may be real gold, but the clasp may be gold-plated. Accurate weight and evaluation is key. Only when these factors are combined are our gold buying experts able to provide an in-person quote.

I've got a 14k sports charm that weighs about 2.4g. Can I get a telephone quotation?
We appreciate it that you've done your homework. But it's important that we do our homework, too, in order to offer you the absolute best price for your gold. Thus, we cannot and will not provide telephone quotations. We highly recommend that you bring in your gold for an evaluation or to an ADI Gold Party. With your gold items in hand, our gold buying experts will have all the tools in-house to weigh, measure, test, and examine the pieces for value. These professional tools empower our gold buying experts to accurately note the value of your gold and to give you the best possible price.

What is pennyweight?
After determining quality and purity, ADI's gold buying experts measure your gold not by the gram but by the pennyweight. A pennyweight (dwt) is a unit of mass, which is the same as 24 grains, 1/240th of a troy pound, 1/20th of a troy ounce, approximately 0.055 ounces, or approximately 1.555 grams. It is the standard to which most precious metals are weighed.

I like your offer. What are my payment options?
Payment based on the quality, purity, and pennyweight of your gold is offered by check or American Diamond Importers store credit. The choice is yours.

What if I'm not sure or want a second opinion?
Need some time to think it over? That's fine. You are welcome to take your gold home and give our offer some thought. There is never any obligation.

I'm ready to sell, but how do I know that ADI is reputable?
If you're not in the Blue Water Area and ADI is not yet a household name in your town, please check out the recent Times Herald feature articles in our news section. There, you'll discover more about the excitement of today's gold boom, get to know our staff by first name, and learn more about American Diamond Importers' involvement in successful gold parties and in-store gold selling. Better still, come visit us in the Riverview Plaza in downtown Saint Clair and find out why ADI is not only the best place to sell your gold, but the best place to buy your gold, too.
